Description of home:
3300 square-foot home built in 1976 includes: - LARGE master bedroom with gas fireplace and queen-size bed. Walk-in closet. Small shower/bath, but a large, well-lit 2-sink vanity. TV with DVD player. - Kitchen has wrap-around cupboards, double sink, view of backyard, dishwasher, microwave, gas oven/stove, refridgerator and LOTS of pantry space. Dining area has a large, modern wooden table that seats 8 to 10. - 2400 square-foot woodworking shop with 400 square-foot paint booth. Has large table saw, band saw, circular saw, work benches, and a BIG air compressor. - Office with three computers with FAST high-speed Internet using wireless router. - Large vegetable garden (if you want, we can plant it and you can harvest beans, tomatoes, carrots, corn, etc.) Peach, Pear, and Apple trees will need watering manually. Let us know if you're a beekeeper and we'll leave our beehives in place behind the shop. - Large family room with older piano. TV nook has Cable, DVD, and game consoles. Lots of books on many topics for teens and adults. - Large backyard with 3 large trees. Nice view of the mountains that are about 2 miles away. Next door neighbors own horses which graze behind our property. You'll need to mow our lawn with our riding lawn mower. Takes about 45 minutes to do the front and back (my teenage son can do it much faster). We have a large covered back porch. - Laundry room has washer and dryer and room for hanging clothes. - Two-car garage with extra refridgerator. - About half of our neighbors on the street are active LDS, most of the rest are friendly, decent people. ... and we mean "rural": - Our home has not been significantly remodeled since it was built in 1976. So, the kitchen appliances aren't new but are in good working order. Master bedroom has 1970's blue carpet (no kidding). - We live about 750 feet from a dairy farm, so, about one evening every two weeks, the wind blows our direction and carries with it a very "rural" odor. At those times, we turn off the evaporative cooler, shut the windows, and stay inside - or - go to the movies! - Our next door neighbor is a real live rancher, complete with cowboy boots -- he's the county meat inspector who has a fence-building company on the side and fixes tractors for nearby farmers... so, his backyard is piled with machinery (ours is clear and has regularly-mown grass). - Oh, we have three OUTDOOR cats, one will insist you pet him if you sit out in the backyard. They'll also need feeding daily with food we'll provide.
Description of area:
Our town, Salem, has about 5,000 inhabitants and is a semi-rural area off the beaten path snuggled up against the mountains in the Southeast corner of Utah County. The town has its own July 4th fireworks display over the beautiful town park and pond. We have one brand-new traffic light, a new library, and a new grocery store. Payson, the next town over, has a state-of-the-art hospital. Our LDS Ward is very friendly and welcoming. The other LDS Stake Center in town has the only Family History Library in the county other than at Brigham Young University, which is a 30-minute drive north of us. BYU's Family History Library, which is open on Sunday, has many more resources. Salt Lake City, with the world's largest family history library is an hour North by highway. Visit Temple Square, the LDS Church Office building, watch the Utah Jazz professional basketball team play, and gape at the massive expanse inside the LDS Conference Center. Several National and State Parks are within a half-day's drive including, among others, National Forests, the remarkable Timpanogos Cave, and the Coral Pink Sand Dunes. Many camping sites are within a half-hour's drive. Park City, about an hour away, sports some very fun Summer activities including hot-air balloons and a high-speed downhill sled.
